Warden rolls The Dyce

Drumpellier got their season back on track with a convincing 6 wicket win over Stoneywood Dyce at Langloan.

The Langloan side were indebted to a fine all round performance from stand in skipper Ian Warden who led from the front taking 3 for 23 before setting up the Drumpellier reply with a fine 28.

After winning the toss Warden put the visitors in to bat and immediately made an early breakthrough, however a fifty partnership between Mark Leask (53) and Ewan Willemse (39) had Drumpellier on the back foot.

However Warden again made inroads in to the Dyce top order before the visitors were dismissed for 156.

Drumpellier made steady progress in reply and reached 54 before Warden departed for 28.

Then Zaheer Mohammed (38) along with brother Asad took the score beyond 100 before departing caught on the boundary.

Asad then took control of the Drumpellier innings and easily guided the Langloan side over the line, finishing unbeaten on 39, with 5 overs to spare.

Warden said “It was an excellent performance from the guys, we didn’t panic when they got a partnership together early on and eventually restricted them to a target we were confident of getting.”

“We managed to get off to a solid start, credit has to go Zaheer as he has been carrying an injury all week, then Asad guided us across the line.”

“Hopefully we can build on that next week at Stenhousemuir, it has been a tight league and we are taking nothing for granted as everyone has been beating each other.”

Meanwhile Drumpellier second string held on for a draw against previously undefeated Victoria who scored 370 for 8, with James Doran picking up 3 wickets.

In reply Drumpellier were 229 for 5 with Jim Hamilton 68 not out and Doran 68 including five sixes.

Skipper Stevie Foster said “It was a tremendous response from the team, in previous seasons we have fell to pieces chasing such a high total but we dug in well and held on the draw.”

“We have had an excellent start to the season and hopefully we can continue to take one game at a time and see where we end up come the end of August, it is our first season in this league so we aren’t getting to carried away.”

“We have Poloc at home on Saturday so we just hope we can continue our good form.”
