Drumpellier can confirm the signing of South African Pieter Stuurman as club professional for the coming season.

The 26 year old from Cape Town was set to go straight in to Saturday’s opening league encounter against Forfarshire, but the match fell victim to the weather.

Stuurman has a good first class pedigree, playing for his state Western Province as a top order batsmen and useful medium pace bowler, he is joined this season by Australian Dan Stevenson as Drumpellier’s second overseas player.

Stevenson plays his cricket for Albion Park Rail in the Illawara area of New South Wales where previous Drumpellier overseas players have come from and is middle order batsmen and off spin bowler.

The 19 year old arrived to play in Drumpellier’s only warm up game to beat the weather against Poloc at Shawholm last weekend and scored a useful 22 before picking up two wickets, but it didn’t stop the Langloan  side going down to 6 wicket deafeat.

Drumpellier president Stevie Allison said “ We have two good players on board for this season and hopefully contribute a lot on and off the park.”

“Pieter is a level two coach and should be able to help a lot of guys improve their game.”

Graeme McLaren takes over he role of skipper for the coming season in what is his second stint in charge and is looking forward to a good season.

He said “We have got two good overseas players on board this season to add to a good squad of players, so hopefully we can be challenging at the right end of the table.”

“The warm up game against Poloc gave everyone a chance to get hit and proved a useful exercise despite the defeat.”

Drumpellier batted first and made a useful total of 153 off 40 overs with Asad Mohammed providing the backbone for the innings with 68, he was well supported by Michael Anderson, Stevenson and McLaren who all notched up 20’s.

Poloc chased the total down with three overs to spare with Stevenson the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 29 off his 10 overs.

This Saturday sees Drumpellier travel to West Lothian in a bid to break their away duck, the Langloan side did not win away from home last season and will be looking to put that right on Saturday to get their season up and running.

Meanwhile the second team are at home to Kingholm in the Western Union 3rd Divsion with Stevie Foster taking charge for the tenth straight season, noth games start at 1pm.

Drumpellier are on the look out for new players of any standard for the forthcoming season and anyone who is interested is more than welcome to come along to practice on a Tuesday and Thursday night at 6.30pm.
