Cup win for Drumps |
|
Drumpelliers top of the table clash against West of Scotland fell victim to Saturday afternoon thunderstorm despite the home side making a solid start. The Langloan side lost the toss and were asked to bat by their Glasgow opponents on what looked a difficult wicket. After the early loss of opener Zaheer Mohammed for a duck, Drumpellier went on to build steadily with Asad Mohammed and Dan Stevenson taking the score along to 40 before the latter departed for 13. Asad continued his excellent form, following on from his 97 the previous week to top score with 33, before being caught of the bowling of Chris Tulloch trying to push the score along. It was left to skipper Graeme McLaren (28) and Stevie Allison (27) to take the score along to a respectable 149 for 9 off the fifty overs, before the rains came in to call a halt to the play. McLaren said “I felt we posted a reasonable total, though another 20 or 30 runs would have been good, a target of 150 still set the match up for an interesting conclusion.” On Sunday Drumpellier got their west league cup campaign off to a excellent start with a twenty run victory over Premier Division side Poloc. Drumpellier batted first and again it was on form Asad Mohammed who led the charge with an excellent 64. He was given able support by professional Pieter Stuurman (20) and skipper Graeme Mclaren (32) as Drumpellier racked up an impressive 192 for 5 inside their 30 overs. Poloc made a bold bid to chase down their target with former Zimbabwean test player Gavin Ewings blasting an excellent 124 before he was well caught by Arif Iqbal off the bowling of Chris Keltie to all but end the visitors hopes of victory. This weekend Drumpellier travel north to take on league leaders Aberdeenshire while the second string are at home to Hillhead both match start at 1pm. |
