Drumps make it 2 in a row |
|
A fine all round performance by Ian Warden gave Drumpellier back-to-back wins in a final over victory away at Freuchie. Warden took three wickets to restrict Freuchie to a modest total of 210 before firing an excellent 49 to put Drumpellier on their way to an important win. The victory ensures Drumpelliers first division status for next season and puts Freuchie in real trouble at the bottom of the table with only three games left to play. Once again skipper Graeme McLaren won the toss and had no hesitation in asking the homes side to bat first. A solid partnership by Robbie Birrel (70) and Scott Gourlay (79) put Freuchie in control but a good bowling spell by Warden and McLaren with three wickets apiece pegged the home side back and they were eventually all out for 210. Drumpellier were given a flying start by Warden who opened up the batting and hit a quick-fire 49 to put Drumps well on target to victrory. Professional Pieter Stuurman continued where Warden had left off and was given good support by skipper McLaren (26). However once Stuurman fell for 60 the visitors suffered a mini-collapse as Freuchie bowled some tight lines and restricted the flow of runs. The Langloan side were reduced to 180 for 8, but a good partnership by overseas amateur Dan Stevenson and youngster Michael Anderson seen Drumpellier over the line. Skipper McLaren said It was an important win for us, it guarantees our safety for next season with three games still left to play. We must now aim to finish in the top half and push to improve on our fifth place finish last season. I though Wardy was excellent for us today, he put the ball in the right areas and got his rewards before backing it up with a good knock with the bat. Meanwhile Drumpellier second team were frustrated as their top of the table clash with Scotindians was washed out on Saturday, a win would have seen them all but guaranteed promotion, but it is still all to play for with four games to go.
