Drumpellier got back on track following last weekend’s defeat against Aberdeenshire with a four-wicket victory over Arbroath at Langloan on Saturday.

The Langloan side wont the toss and took to the field first, not surprising as all of the sides victories this season has been chasing a total.

Arbroath made a solid start to the innings progressing to 20 without loss before Ian Warden picked up two wickets in quick succession including that of professional Chris Johnson second ball without scoring.

Warden was the pick of the Drumpellier bowling finishing with figures of 3 for 25 from ten overs, as the home side reduced Arbroath to 88 for 9.

A spirited 44 by Mark Petrie took the visitors to 112, in good final wicket partnership but it always looked a few runs short on what was an improving wicket.

Drumpellier reply got of to the worse possible start, as they were 6 for 3 after the first 5 overs, before professional Pieter Stuurman and skipper Graeme McLaren steadied the ship.

Stuurman (36) and McLaren (37) put on 77 for the fourth wicket to take Drumpellier to within touching distance of victory before both fell in quick succession.

It was then left to Chris Keltie and Dan Stevenson to take the Langloan side over the line with 12 overs to spare.

McLaren said “It was a good to get back on track this weekend I thought we bowled really well to reduce them to 88 for 9, but then they had a good partnership to get them up above a hundred, that is just part of the game the final pair dug in well.”

“We got off to a poor start with the bat, but we settled down and managed to get over the line.”

“One more victory should see us safe, but we will still be trying to win every game between now and the end of the season.”

“Promotion is out of reach for us now, mainly down to the amount of matches we have had postponed.”

“It is going to be tough on Saturday away to Freuchie, they are at the bottom of the table and fighting to stay in the league.”

Drumpellier second team remained top of the league with a convincing seven-wicket victory over Cumbernauld.

The second team dismissed their hosts for just 54 with Darren Pryde picking up four wickets, before knocking off the runs for the loss of just three wickets.

Skipper Stevie Foster said “It was a tremendous performance again, but there is a long way to go before we can think about winning the league, we have a lot of tough games coming up.”

“This weekend is very important we have a double header starting at home on Saturday against Scotindians, who are also going for promotion and have beat us already this season.”

Drumpellier complete the weekend with a trip to face Garscube, both games start at 1pm.
