Drumpellier Cricket Club’s end of season awards were held on Saturday night, with skipper Graeme McLaren picking up the Budhi Kunderan Memorial Trophy for player of the year.

McLaren who finished in the top ten of both the league batting and bowling averages was a worthy winner and was presented with the award by Budhi’s son Dilan.

The Drumpellier skipper said, “It is a honour to be presented with the award, we all know how good a player Budhi was and how much he did for the club.”

“It was a very mixed season for the club, once again we finished in the top half and could have been closer to the promotion slots had it not been for the amount of games washed out.”

“We also managed to make the semi finals of the West League Cup, which was a terrific achievement.”

“Hopefully next year we can build on this and try and make a final as well as making a good challenge for the league.”

“We have a good squad and add to that a quality overseas player next season, there is no reason why we can’t make a challenge.”

It was also an excellent year for Drumpellier second string, with an excellent mixture of youth and experience ran away with the Western Union Division 4.

Youngster Josh Allison was a stand out in the side’s impressive season and he picked up the award for the second team player of the year after picking up 30 wickets for the season as well as some vital runs.

Stevie Foster also received an award in recognition for all his hard work over the last ten years as second team skipper.

Foster said “It was an excellent season for the team, the young guys were magnificent for us, which stands us in good stead for next year.”

“The step up will prove a tougher test but we have lot of good young players coming through that I am sure will step up to the plate.”
