League and Cup defeats

Drumpellier failed to follow up on last weeks victory over Fruechie going down by 50 runs against Stenhousemuir at the Tryst on Saturday.

Skipper Graeme Mclaren won the toss and elected to bowl first, a decision that looked to be justified as the Langloan side made early inroads in to the Stenhousemuir top order.

However a 100 partnership between Scotland star Glen Rodgers (54) and professional Craig Thyssen took the game away from Drumpellier.

Thyssen went on to make 134 despite been dropped on 30 and then again just before he made his century as the home side posted an impressive total of 262.

Drumpelliers never really got going as they stumbled to 113 for 4 with Zaheer Mohammed scoring 64, before McLaren (65) took over to take the total to 212 all out in 48 overs.

McLaren said “Yet again we were poor in the field and probably gave them 30 runs too many.”

“We lacked consistency for a few years now and we need to try and change that by putting a run of results together starting on Saturday.”

Drumpellier’s weekend got worse as they crashed out of the Scottish cup at the hands of Ferguslie by 100 runs.

Ferguslie batted first and posted an impressive 267 from their fifty overs with Ian Warden the pick of the Drumpellier bowlers picking up 3 for 58.

Drumpelliers reply never really got going as once again they struggled towards 167 for 6 from the fifty overs with Mohammed once again providing the backbone of the innings with 41.

Meanwhile Drumpellier second string continued their impressive start to the season with a nine wicket win over Home Park.

Drumpellier dismissed their hosts for only 43 before chasing the target down for the loss of only one wicket.

Skipper Stevie Foster said “It has been an excellent start to the season hopefully we can keep that momentum going.”
